Quick Summary

The bariatric surgery overview cites third-party and patient-discussion sources suggesting a standard laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy at a public hospital costs roughly ¥45,000–65,000 ($6,300–9,200) self-pay, with VIP or single-port options at ¥80,000–100,000. These figures come from China News, Zhihu and Baidu Health — not from hospital quotes for international patients. A verified total requires a written hospital estimate covering your specific procedure, tests, ward and follow-up. The breakdown below shows which components to ask about.

These are cost categories, not a treatment recommendation. China-Japan Friendship Hospital describes its metabolic surgery service, but that page does not publish a patient package price. A Chongqing Medical Security Bureau reply (8 September 2025) explains that bariatric service prices differ by region, hospital level and procedure. It does not set a price for Beijing or Shanghai.

International Department vs General Clinic

The same hospital may offer general outpatient care and an international service with different registration, interpretation or room arrangements. We found no verified bariatric price differential for the hospitals above. Ask which department issues the estimate, which department performs the procedure, and whether language support and an international ward are optional or required.

What Is Not Included

A surgical quote may exclude extra tests, an unexpected additional night, interpretation, local transport, accommodation for you and a companion, visa fees, and follow-up or supplements at home. Ask the hospital to mark each item included, excluded or conditional. Your travel budget should also cover a change of dates if the clinical team needs more time.

How to Get a Written Estimate

Contact the treating hospital's international department or surgical clinic. Give them your proposed dates and ask for an itemized estimate that names the procedure, clinical team, ward type, tests, devices, payment milestones, cancellation terms and what happens if the plan changes. The hospital may need records to prepare that estimate; do not send records through this website or email. A coordinator can explain the consent-based handoff. See our guide to China hospital costs.

Insurance and Payment

Ask your insurer, in writing, whether treatment abroad, this procedure, the selected hospital and aftercare are covered. Do not assume a local public insurance rule applies to you. Our international insurance guide explains what to confirm; our payment guide covers practical payment questions.

The hospital, rather than Medvoyal, bills you for care. Compare the hospital's quote with your home-country quote using the same procedure, tests, ward, length of stay and follow-up scope.

In a medical emergency in China, call 120

120 is the emergency ambulance number in mainland China. You can also go straight to the emergency department (急诊) of the nearest hospital. Don't wait for a reply from Medvoyal or a companion. We are not an emergency service.

For planning purposes only. Not medical advice or a hospital quote. The treating hospital sets your fees, eligibility and care plan. Medvoyal does not diagnose, treat or guarantee outcomes.
